Cougars Fall Short in Postseason Opener, Falling to Trojans 4-2
The Frederick Community College Cougars baseball team opened the NJCAA Region 20 DII West Tournament on Friday with a tough 4-2 loss to the #4 seed Allegany College of Maryland Trojans in a tightly contested semifinal matchup at home. Despite a standout effort on the mound from Adam Horst, who fanned 11 batters over seven innings and allowed just two runs, the Cougars couldn't generate enough offense to overcome a late push by the Trojans.
Frederick found itself down 2-0 early before Luis Perez Alfaro delivered the game's biggest swing for the home side—a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth that tied the game. But that would be the last of the scoring for the Cougars, who managed only three hits on the day against a rotating cast of five Allegany pitchers.
Allegany pulled ahead at the top of the eighth, handing Frederick its first loss in the tournament and placing them on the brink of elimination. The loss drops the Cougars to 45-10 on the season and sets up a must-win game against the #2 seed Garrett College Lakers tomorrow, Saturday, May 10, at 10 AM at home.
